Formed in 2009, UPPERCASE is a Filipino-Canadian pop rock indie band from Toronto, Canada pursuing Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
Composed of Mark de Leon (vocals/guitars), Allan Lagat (bass/guitars), Joey Giagonia (lead guitars), and Kyle Andre Saliva (drums/percussions).
Unanimously chosen as “Top Band” on June 2013 by judges of Toronto’s Filipinos Making Waves Festival held at Dundas Square, UPPERCASE started to catch attention with their first single “Balikbayan” which was voted Number 1 on CyberPinoyRadio.net (based in the UK) on December 2012 where it stayed on top for several consecutive weeks.
The band released its debut full-length album on May 17, 2013 at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Toronto. It showcases a range of light rock to alternative pop rock genres, mostly written in Tagalog, reflecting heavily on the group's influence of OPM from their native Philippines.
The album is currently available on Limited Edition CDs and on mainstream digital streaming media, released under Toronto indie label Radio Insect Records (www.radioinsectrecords.com).
On November 2013 a full page article about the band was published on page 13 of the Waves newspaper web edition which helped further increase the band's exposure to Toronto's Filipino community.
The band has also recently started to expand its profile in the Philippines thanks to rave reviews from online media based in Manila - Bootleg-Radio.com, Rakista Radio, Gigs Manila, and NDFY.me to name a few.
